My husband and I are relocating to Baton Rouge from South Carolina this year. We plan to rent at first, but we'd really like to be able to purchase a home. We only plan on being in Baton Rouge for about 4 or 5 years. Is it worth buying a home? Should we just rent the whole time we're done there? And does anyone know the market well in that area?|||Rent on a 6 month lease.

Have the house inspected! Hurricane damage can be covered up. Even after you place lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig.|||I personally believe you are always better off buying rather than renting. It is an investment in yourself rather than paying someone else (that is if you are going to be in one place longer than 12 months.)

Baton Rouge boomed after Katrina, but don't know about now. Go online and see how many listings there are. If it is flooded with homes for sale - you will know that it is a weak market and that means you can get more house for the dollar.

Good Luck!
