Check out the above link. There is one in Baker, but your best bet will be somewhere on Airline, or somewhere around Southern Univ. You can even cross the Huey P. Long and go into Port Allen to find something cheaper.|||Well, there are many hotels around that area. If you are looking for quality I would suggest Hampton Inn. You might have to pay $125 or so. I am 90% sure I am going to be attending LSU next year, so have been looking up what it is like in BR.
All of the reviews I see are very mixed. There will be one super negative one saying the crime is horrible, the people are horrible, "Leave your dental records on the table when you leave the house", etc. Then the very next review says it is amazing, the people are fantastic, crime is just slightly above average but under control, there is a ton to do and see, etc.
So what do you guys think?|||Baton Rouge is a normal American city. It isn't a tourism Mecca like New Orleans but there are things to do plus lots of shopping & restaurants. New Orleans is 90 minutes away by car.
Crime happens in BR, but almost all of the violence happens > within < the criminal community (specifically between people who are in the drug trade). My family is from BR and I don't recall any of them ever being the victim of a crime. I have no idea where the "Leave your dental records on the table when you leave the house" type stuff comes from - it's simply not true UNLESS you buy/sell/use crack cocaine.
LSU is a good university and I am certain you will enjoy going to school there.

New Orleans has a lot of character because of the old buildings and charm it has on it's streets. Baton Rouge is more modern. I am not sure what you consider Southern, but when I think of Southern, I think of a lot of land with open field and plantation homes. If you are looking for this, there is plenty plantations to tour on River Road, which is about equal distance from both New Orleans and Baton Rouge. It is a road that follows the Mississippi and some of the famous plantations are located there. One of River Roads famous plantations is Oak Alley Plantation http://www.oakalleyplantation.com Many movies were filmed here. Another great place to go is Saint Francisville. This is located North of Baton Rouge. It also has a few gorgeous plantations, including the Myrtles. The Myrtles is one of the United States top 10 haunted places. This is another story research question. In looking at several maps of Baton Rouge (where I have never lived but only visited), I notice that there are only like two bridges crossing the Mississippi, and wonder why this is. Is it because of the river changing course? Because the ground is marshy?? Gonzales is a suburb of Baton Rouge. It's own town.
I suggest Prairieville, Denham Springs and Walker if you want to live outside city limits.
Inside Baton Rouge, Highland Road by I-10 is very nice but spendy. Also, Jefferson Hwy area is growing and is nice also. (Stay away from North Baton Rouge!!)

I live in Baton Rouge and have driven to Charleston, SC a couple times (on the way according to mapquest). I never had to pay a toll staying on the interstate, I doubt there are any for the remaining 300 miles.
Just wondering if you have considered flying. That's easily a 15-16 hour drive and using an average mpg of 25, you're looking at about $125-150 for gas. I'm sure you can find a flight for that much or cheaper if planned ahead of time|||I have driven from LA to NC recently and did not pay any tolls. The answer is zero and zero. It's the best answer! Head out of Baton Rouge on the 12/10, at Mobile pick up the 65 which splits at Montgomery. Take the 85 through Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Shortly after crossing the Virginia state line take US 58 east all the way to Norfolk. When you get to Norfolk you're almost there. US 58 runs into I-664. You're only on the 664 for a mile or two. Drift over to the inside lanes. They become I-264 and goes through the center of Norfolk the downtown tunnel and deadends on Atlantic Avenue, Virginia Beach. Now if you don't quite get over to the inside lanes on 664, no problem. The outside lanes become I-64 and goes around the south side of Norfolk. It crosses I-264 on the east side of town. Just keep your eyes open for 'I-264 east - Virginia Beach', then you're back on track. NO TOLLS! Fastest route. Have a great trip.

I am in eight grade and i need an extremely expierenced professional trainer for long jump and triple jump.
I reside currently in Zachary|||Look at www.usatf.org go to the southern association. There are several very good coaches on clubs within this association.
It is also possible that one of the coaches at LSU will be willing to coach you.
I need it to be fairly calm and very cheep. No sicknesses and it needs to be able to jump, canter, trot, walk, and walk and trot over poles well.|||First let me congratulate you on making a very wise decision in acquiring a horse. If this is going to be your first horse then you've made a choice that you're going to be pleased with for a long time.
Next I would question your definition of "cheap". I've been looking for a good horse for over a year and the cheapest I've horse that I was interested in was $5k. Not pocket change, but I thought a decent price for the horse. Sadly this horse was terrified of my trainers guinea hens and I made the decision not to purchase her.
In looking for a lesson horse I would talk to my trainer. They have connections and should know the "ins and outs" of your local horse community. If there are any available lesson horses out there this is probably the best way to find them. Other than that I'd get down my phone book and look up area stables. Even an internet search for riding stables in the places I would be willing to travel. Jot down the numbers and give the places a ring to see if they have any horses for sale.
It is possible to find a good lesson horse fairly cheap, but it will take some determination, a few phone calls and a lot of patience.

A horse with that kind of training is going to be hard to find and expensive; also make sure you have money for vet bills and food... just a tip you might want to find a less expensive hobby. I don't even like to think about how much our horses used to cost a month!|||For a horse like that you're not going to find one cheap.

Make sure you learn about horses before adopting, though. They require specialized care.|||Wow. You are asking alot for the horse to be cheap and have training like that. You must be out of your mind! If you have experience try getting a horse that is calm and train him yourself. Maybe an Appaloosa? They are great lesson horses.|||Look around for ads round your area for someone who wants their horse exercised for free. That's how I got mine. He's a gem and I can do anything on him, for no cost.|||The best place to look for lesson horses is a lesson barn. Ask around at different ones to see if they have any for sale. A barn I used to take lessons at had all their school horses for sale, but they weren't advertised. School horses are usually the cheapest around because they're not young and flashy.

Has anyone been to Baton Rouge Louisiana, if so can you tell me a good hotel to stay at and some things to do during the day and at night, also good places to eat thanks..|||You might try one of the hotels off College Drive, just west of the I-10/I-12 split. That area is still kinda safe during the day, just don't go out after dark and don't leave any valuables in your room. Wherever you decide to stay, bring some bug spray and liberally coat the mattress and pillows to get rid of the lice and mexican bedbugs. You'll also want to bring a large caliber handgun, extra ammunition, and some kevlar body armor if you have it. Baton Rouge has gone completely "ghetto" since the Katrina refugees hit town, and is already ahead of N'Awlins (per capita) in this years race to be "Murder Capital of America".
Frankly, you're better off staying at a hotel in the White flight area just East of Baton Rouge in Livingston Parish. Denham Springs and Walker both have decent hotels, nice clean restaurants, friendly White people, and virtually no violent crime unless the occasional stray Africanus criminalus wanders in.|||there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Another suggestion would be the College Drive area. Again, there are a lot of restaurants and bars, but you'll definitely need a car to get around.
The Cook Hotel is owned by the LSU Alumni Association and close to campus, if you are interested in that scene.

and why?|||I never "lived" in Baton Rouge, but I've visited my family that lives in Baton Rouge countless times. Baton Rouge is one of my favorite cities with great people, but it is no Houston. There are more places to go to in Houston. In Houston you can experience different cultures that you can't in Baton Rouge.|||I`ve never lived in baton Rouge.... sorry..

There are certain areas that you want to avoid. Anything north of Government Street would be off limits. North Baton Rouge is the "ghetto". I live in Ascension Parish, and I commute to LSU everyday, and I feel safe. Most of your affluent, young couples with children live outside of East Baton Rouge Parish because of the lower cost of living and better school systems.

There are certain areas that you want to avoid. Anything north of Government Street would be off limits. North Baton Rouge is the "ghetto". I live in Ascension Parish, and I commute to LSU everyday, and I feel safe. Most of your affluent, young couples with children live outside of East Baton Rouge Parish because of the lower cost of living and better school systems.

I've been looking around and have decided that I want to take some lessons in riding before I take on the challenge of another horse. I know BREC(Baton Rouge Equestrian Center) has lessons. Also, in Livingston there was a farm called Red Oak Farm, with a trainer named Mareth Ellsworth...she was a wonderful teacher and I believe she's still there. I live in New Olreans and take lessons in Folsom/Covington usually. That is a bit of a drive from BR, but there are TONS of nice farms to ride at up there. I have a daughter at LSU in Baton Rouge and I'm not too happy about Gustav either, but it made me feel better to know that Baton Rouge is where practically all of the news teams from New Orleans and other inundated parts of Louisiana went when Katrina hit. (They needed the two full professional studios in the comm. building. Booted all the very disappointed communications students out.)
So how is the college, which is responsible for the safety of 32,000 kids, preparing?
The kids there are being asked to tightly bag up and store their electronics and other water-damageable things (like your computer) to protect them, to get some non-perishable food on hand like peanut butter and crackers, trail mix, canned meals like tuna, chili, ravioli, ready-to-eat soup (make sure you've got a can-opener and some spoons!), to get some bottled water and... to not freak out!
I've been in two hurricanes and nearby to four tornadoes (one in my back yard) and freaking out doesn't do a bit of good. It can actually make things a lot worse.
Louisian city planners, Baton Rouge included, are preparing for what's going on as are emergency planners in Texas and Mississippi.
The Prez has declared an emergency NOW so funds and stuff are available to get folks ready ahead of time, evacuation plans for parts of Louisiana are being made in case they're needed, buses are being volunteered for use, food, water and supplies are being gathered, some roads may be made one-way only to help people leave, all sorts of preparations are being made. Louisiana is WAY ahead of where it was in being ready when Katrina hit.
Bear in mind, New Orleans' government had been TOLD years ago that they should prepare in case a big one like Katrina hit them and they did nothing about it. That lack of preparation meant they were totally caught out, it cost people terribly and nobody's making that mistake twice.
That said, look at a map of the path Gustav has taken so far. It has a sharp jog to the left in it. Hurricanes go in odd directions sometimes. (A lot of times, actually.) The thing could head a bit west and make a run at Houston, heck it could even decide it'd like Mexico better. Don't get to worrying until you are sure you have something to worry about...and maybe you could set aside some drinking water, some food that won't spoil or get soggy and some clothes and things in a bag if it'll make you feel better. It sure can't hurt.||| Yes, it is going to hit us so be VERY prepared and pray for your safety. Get your parents and get a plan of action together. You can have fun with this, with snacks, puzzles, games and don't forget BOOKS, this is a very good to time to read!! Make sure you have plenty of water and ice, take care of yourself and your pets!

Its the only school In EBR Parish with a "free" dress code. I graduated in 09 but the dress code as of now has not changed. Right now the original building is getting re-modeled so the school is in a different location (Lee High). You can live in any school district of the parish and as long as you are accepted you may attend. Just go or call the school for the application. Have at least a 2.5 overall and not a senior. any other questions just send me an email and i'll help. I didn't go all 4 years but I loved every year I went!!...aah we do not have sports..no not because were all brains...but because we can accept children all over the parish we would have an unfair advantage. We do have track, swimming, soccer, ultimate frisbee a few others ,and intramural sports. And we are amazing at the sports we have. Our female track team is vicious lol
My wife is a little worried about everything. Is Lafayette La as bad as people say? I have been to Louisiana a few times and to Lafayette once. I actually liked what I saw. Also, are there any mens lacrosse leagues in the area?|||All cities have there good and bad points. As a rule, I've learned that people from a city will say that smaller cities and cities that it is in competition with are bad cities, while hailing larger cities as good cities. I live in Baton Rouge and here people bad mouth Lafayette because they believe there is not that much to do. Of course compared to a larger city there isn't, but relative to it's size there's probably a lot of things to do. I've only been to Lafayette a few times and it didn't seem all that special to me, of course I didn't have time to explore.|||I think you will love it here. I am from Lafayette and would not go anywhere else. You won't find more friendly people or better food than here. The city is really growing and our economy is said to be one of the best in the nation even considering all that's going on right now.
I don't know if you are into going out but the nightlife in Lafayette is great.

But, by car on Interstate-10, it's about 82 miles from city limit to city limit, or about an hour and twenty minute drive. Longer in fog (common this time of year), rain, football traffic (Saints or LSU, or rush hours (add at least one hour for rush hour traffic).
It's about 12 to 18 hours however, if you are evacuating from New Orleans in front of a potential hurricane!!!|||It's about 70 miles by road.

...when retiring.|||The problem with finding a place to live between Lafayette and Baton Rouge is that there is an enormous swamp that divides the two cities. The two cities are about 60 miles apart, connected by Interstate 10. Right in the middle of that stretch is the Atchafalaya Basin, which spans about 30 miles.
But on the western side of the swamp, you will find a number of charming old Cajun towns that would be perfect for retirement.
I live in Breaux Bridge. It's a small town that's close to Lafayette- so you can enjoy all of the benefits of small town living without giving up the comforts of the city.
Before the highways were built, much of the local trade was conducted along the Bayou Teche. If you follow the bayou up from Morgan City, you will find a string of beautiful little towns, all built by French and Cajun settlers. So have a look around Franklin, New Iberia, St. Martinville, Breaux Bridge, and Arnaudville. You will be amazed by the architecture and the history that lies along that little bayou!
There is also a wonderful and vital local culture. Music, dancing, singing, and of course...food!

I think of Baton Rouge as a chain restaurant. It places itself pretty much the same as Moxies. So it's better than Jack Astors, but not as good as Nota Bene, The Corner House, or other nice restaurants in Toronto that aren't chains.
Expect appetizers to be $10-15, with mains $20-30. You will probably be spending about $40-50 per person including taxes and tip if you split an appetizer and dessert.
I'm curious on what a baton rouge "accent" sound like (considering if there is any at all.) I know that dialects differ from place to place (like in my city we tend to combine words- like say "doya" instead of do you).

Well I live Louisiana, about 30 minutes away from Baton Rouge, and I love to go to the casino, maybe you are not a gambler, but I am. I went to the Belle casino, and I loved it. I wanna try casino Rouge.|||It all depends on what you like to do & your age.|||Ther are movie theaters, great resturants, and of course the casinoes.

i am from new orleans but i currently live in baton rouge because of katrina, rent have gone done a whole lot in baton rouge with people everyday more and more moving back to new orleans. so i would say rent now for a 2 bedroom would be between 800-1200 in a decent area. try new sherwood forest, those apartments in those areas are nice or some near lsu but traffic will be horrible on game days and property near there is either hard to come by or extremly high because everyone wants to be close on game days. just keeo looking anything near interstate 12 would be good areas to look.|||When you say good apartments are you looking for near campus and cheap or luxury away from the campus? Best thing to do is get an apartment guide.|||Since Hurricane Katrina, housing in the Baton Rouge area is scarce. Those place which are available are sky high.

What do you think of Louisiana State Unviersity for chemical engineering graduate program? Any tips on companies coming to campus, professors, school setting would be appreciated?
I would like to work in R&D for energy companies after this. Would you prefer University of Houston or University of Oklahoma over it? If yes, why?|||Everyone has their opinion on whether a school is good or not. You have to be the ultimate judge of what is suitable for you.|||LSU is widely known as a party school, and the graduates from that school oftentimes don't seem to have the academic background that others in the petroleum industry have. There are exceptions, but overall it's a known stereotype. And that can harm a person's chances of employment.
OU would probably be my top choice of the three, only because I'm familiar with their academic reputation and the excellent engineering department. I don't know much about UofH so can't comment. But what about the engineering school at Texas A&M? It's world class and Aggies are known for hiring other Aggies. The networking is amazing, and it's close to Houston where the oil companies are. However, there are tons of Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys employed in the oil industry as well. Doubt this helps, but maybe a little.
and what are some things that Baton Rouge has That New Orleans dont got and vice versa|||I live in between Baton Rouge & New Orleans & work in Baton Rouge. The traffic in Baton Rouge is horrible for my trek back & forth to work. It was bad before Katrina and since then has been a lot worse. They are adding some lanes to the interstate which should help & they're still talking about putting in a loop. Unfortunately, that's all they seem to do is talk about it. I graduated from LSU & so I do love Baton Rouge, I just hate the traffic.|||Baton Rouge is a fairly normal "new South" city, and living there is not very different than living in Atlanta or Houston - though of course without the attractions of those much larger cities (BR has a metro-area population of less than 500,000).
New Orleans is New Orleans, and it is one of the world's special places -even after the devastation of Katrina in 2005. That doesn't mean everything about NOLA is wonderful, but the City has an addictive attraction that is hard to explain. We are also working (in the post-Katrina environment) to reduce the problems, such as to finally elect a group of politicians that are reasonably competent + honest.
Note that living in a suburb of New Orleans - especially the more distant ones - is not very different from Baton Rouge.|||i live in new orleans and love it and every so often my friends and i will take a road trip to baton rouge. new orleans is "historical" it dates way back and has a lot of history and haunted things and whatnot. baton rouge is more of like a suburbian type city. now don't get me wrong i love baton rouge, it's just a little different. traffic is ALWAYS bad in baton rouge. i don't know what it is but it seems like it's always bad. there's a lot of shopping, the mall of louisiana. and blue bayou/dixie landin (which is a waterpark/amusement park) baton rouge doesn't have as many original "mom and pop" resturants like new orleans does. (think chili's or applebees) but if your from out of state maybe good food isn't at the top of your list. it's somewhat of a college town because it's tiger country home to LSU. there's a few good bars and places to go out. in a nutshell, if i didn't live in new orleans, the next place i'd want to live is baton rouge :)|||I've lived in Baton Rouge all my life. I have to disagree about it being just a colleage town. Far from that. Baton Rouge isnt as large as New Orleans. It just depends on what you prefer. I love Baton Rouge. But I love visiting New Orleans. I like how everything is pretty easy to get to here in Baton Rouge. (driving in NOLA scares me to death, but I dont think thats typical, im just a nervous driver, lol) Baton Rouge has a lot of good restaurants. Of course you'll find more restaurants and bars in New Orleans. Also, New Orleans has the Aquarium, The Audobon Zoo, Insectarium, and loads of other stuff as well. Both are great places to live, and close to eachother anyway. so you win both ways, lol.|||Ups on New Orleans, unique city like no other. Historical, with character. Small and cozy.

BR has more big box stores; if you live in NOLA you have to go to Metairie. NOLA has public transportation; BR barely qualifies. (I sold my car when I moved here.) BR has cheaper rent, but it's easier to find a job in NOLA. BR has marginally better schools, but NO has better universities.

I went to college in New Orleans for a while, but had to move back home to SC. I loved it there, but I hear the situation has gotten more dismal lately. So my wife and I are looking at moving to Baton Rouge so I can go to LSU. Is it generally a good place to live? What are the pros and cons?|||It is a nice mid sized town. There is lots to do and it used to be quite affordable. Traffic was a problem before Katrina and since it has exploded. Prices have risen considerably post-Katrina as well. Crime too.
In short it is a nice place to live, but not as nice as say 10 years ago.

According to http://www.greyhound.com/home/ it takes about 32 hours. The round-trip fare is about $350.
Note that you can fly round-trip from New Orleans to New York/La Guardia for about $300 or from Baton Rouge to Newark for about $425.(including taxes & fees). Flying takes about 3 hours if it's a non-stop flight, and 5 to 6 hours of traveling if you have to change planes somewhere.

i have a limited print of the 3 clown poster i know they were 350 unframed it is framed and mint condition also number 15 out of 1500 would this be worth anything today ? its signed by george rodrigue|||1500 is a pretty large edition. It may have some appeal to poster collectors but seems pretty regional in subject matter and is not old enough to be considered an antique.
I do not think it will sell for much.
You could do an eBay search from time to time and see if it shows up, that could be a starting point.

Law in Louisiana is different from all other states in the Union -
Louisiana has "Napoleonic Law" - It affects property rights, marriage laws and *some" Interstate Commerce (ICC law trumps Louisiana trade laws, but in cases where there is no ICC law in effect, Louisiana law will hold, and it tends to be different).
If you go to law school in Louisiana, you *may* (I don't know about this school you mentioned and their focus) be stuck with an education that limits you to that area only.

I have been to Southern plenty of times for different things and I love it...[but I do not want to stay home all year round, that's the only thing that's keeping me away from Southern]|||I applaud you for considering HBUs. You can not go wrong with either school|||Southern University in Baton Rouge. Great tradition and an excellent choice for an institution of higher learning. Best band around too.|||Clark baby!!! .....and pledge Alpha Kappa Alpha.
Plus, by it being a HBC, your professors and counselors will be more supportive.|||Both are good HBCU schools but you should decide based on what they offer in the area you want to study. or if you are not sure about your major you should at least think of a few options you might want and compare. Also extra-curriculars and if you have a better chance of a scholarship at one or the other. If you have a chance, set up a visit to each campus where you will be able to see the facilities, meet students and ask more questions.

I went to NC A&T State University and sometimes I wonder if I would have prospered more if I would have came to school down here in ATL. Both of my younger sisters went to school in Atlanta and when I would walk amongst the campus, it was a true atmosphere of diversity that was unlike that environment at NC A&T State University. But then again, it is Atlanta, a major metropolitan...
I think that at the end of the day you should go with your gut and I am quite certain you will know which one is right for by the time you get to 11th grade...
I wanted to go to a completely different school in the 10th and most of 11th grade.
For some reason I just knew that the school I ended up becoming alumnae from was the one to go with and I am sure you will too!

PS. pay each of your ideal schools a visit so you can have a feel for it!|||you should look into what each school can offer for you, like what each school is known for. some schools are known for their medical fields, some maybe law, or some in computer science, etc. see what you're interested, what type of people go there, how many students are there, if it's a party school [if you're a party person], etc. also check how much it would be for you to go to each school. from what i'm hearing nowadays it doesn't really matter that much WHERE you go for undergrad so i don't think you should be dishing out a ton of cash for undergrad schooling...

They run about $6 for a 72 cell pack, and you can start more plants more cheaply this way and different varieties also.. Plants that you can start that grow well in this zone include: tomatoes, okra, eggplant, zucchini, bell peppers, herbs. A good source for seeds is Parks seeds (mail order). A good choice for tomatoes are the cherry type.|||Start seeds inside as we still are not past frost danger. I just put seed potatoes outside (in Slidell), and planted lettuce transplants last week.
Tomatoes do not set fruit in the extreme heat that we have, so get them in early. Use transplants unless you are experienced.
Wax beans do not do well here. I do not plant corn because I am never happy with it.

Only consider being an actor if you'd be happy to do it all your life even if you knew right from the start that you'd never ever get a leading role in anything.
Genuine actors simply love to act - fame means nothing to them.
As for finding auditions, have you had several years of regular attendance at a good drama school or acting class? Have you had lots of relevant experience in a wide range of plays and short films with you in leading roles? Because that's what it's going to take.
Agents are the people who find auditions for actors, but they only want experienced and very well-trained professionals.
No-one employs beginners.

does anyone know of some like grassy fields or places with wildflowers near Baton rouge I can do a shoot at?|||If your interested in photos like those then the Tickfaw State Park off of the Albany or Holden exit on i-12 should work for you.|||Explore the back roads around Baton Rouge. Take these trips on your motorcycle, car, or bicycle and take it slow. You miss too much if you just motor through at a fast clip.
Take along some refreshments and a good pair of binoculars. Looking at things through a narrow view will allow you to concentrate on things you might miss if you depend solely on your unaided vision.
Buy yourself a good 3-lens package of closeup lenses and a tripod. Don't concentrate only on things far away. Stop and smell the roses, and take a closeup shot of the bee gathering pollen from the rose, etc.
Using your closeup lenses, get up close to a mirror and take a few shots of different parts of your own face. You'll be surprised what you find there.

My friend and I are moving to Baton Rouge, soon, and we are wondering what kinds of insects and spiders we should expect to find in our home.|||Bugs are a part of life in most of the south. Hopefully you don't have to deal with a roach infestation, but do expect to see at least a handful over the course of the year. You shouldn't see them all the time unless there really is a problem. Depending on your situation and location, you might have to deal with some spiders (usually small) and or ants. Silverfish seem to be the biggest issue at my place.
Trust me, they aren't half as bad in the city as they are if you're living "down-the bayou". Then you get to see super sized cockroaches and spiders

It takes me about 4 1/2 hours to drive from New Orleans to Destin, and Baton Rouge should be about the same since you can take I-12 and merge with I-10 at Slidell. I drive between 70 and 75 mph.
Not sure how the other answerer can do the drive in 3 1/2 hours. FYI, most of the hotels are simply not in northern baton rouge(where the airport is). There are hotels in Central and Baker, two little suburbs that are included in northern baton rouge.

Prairieville and French Settlement aren't too bad of places to live in. Gonzales isn't that far away either. Denham Springs is ok if you are very outdoorsy.|||You could try West Feliciana Parish. It's pretty small and quiet for the most part. But the police don't play down there. They'll pull you over just for the sake of it. lol

About certain alcoholic beverages: Realize that some famous drinks are VERY potent compared with regular cocktails that have only 1 to 1 陆 ounces of alcohol. Factory paint looks worse than the 17 year old Ford Escort in my driveway. It's really faded badly. I'm a bit suprised that Mitsubishi is even still in business painting cars this poorly. Hoping there is somewhere I can have it fixed without spending an arm and a leg.|||Mitsubishi always use cheap paint... even as of now. But some people don't mind, because they eventually will like to repaint it custom way. Anyways, why not try MAACO if you don't have the money. MAACO sprays some cheap paint as well. But the less money you pay, the less reliable and less quality, the more you pay, the better the quality. You can tell MAACO to put how much layers of paint and clear coating as well but will cost more. But as far as I know, they probably are the cheapest with paint. They usually go around $200-$400 depending how large the vehicle is.

If there isn't anything, then you might even have to look at a farther big city. I know Houston/Dallas have quite a few larger agencies, but it also depends on the type of agency you are looking for.
Barbizon is a modeling SCHOOL. It is not an agency. If you are paying them for "modeling classes" then it is a school. It is not a scam if all you want is a school. But if you are looking for an agency, then it is better to skip the "modeling school" altogether since a legit agency will teach you what you need to be successful and it won't cost you anything to learn this. Agencies make money when you do: when you get a job, they take about 20% of your paycheck for those jobs. It's how it works.

I have a chronic back ailment and have lost my insurance after 6 years of treatment , mostly with medicine and physical therapy. I moved home to Louisiana after losing my inurance and going thru a divorce, finding myself with less money, alot of pain ,no help with the bills and doctors telling me to go to a pain clinic . The ones i have talked to so far are either too expensive (600 monthly) or insurance only.|||One place you could check is thru the city health dept to see if they offer a free health clinic that also offers Pain Management services.
Another place is to check with some of the Medical Schools close by to see if they might be of some help.

American - Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro (OMG Praline Cheesecake!!! but it is expensive)
Italian - DeAngelo's or Louisiana Pizza Kitchen (there's ALOT of Italian to choose from so these might not be the BEST but they are both very good)

If it was regular mail ground delivery, you can expect that to be delayed considerably around this time of year. First, the order has to be processed and shipped by whoever you bought from. Then Canada Post delivers that package to a designated mail depot where US Customs and Border Protection has to authorize it to cross the border and see if there are any duties or taxes to be paid. Then US Postal Service picks it up and delivers it from that depot across the continental US, probably from a northern city down to Baton Rouge. Then finally it is sorted and sent to you.

The hair industry, salon or OTC products, is a billion dollar business, their main job is to make tons of money and they do not even give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss due to 'abuse'. When you're putting chemicals, relaxers or perming or dyeing, those are considered 'abuse' no matter if they're bought at the salon or OTC. They still go through the same regulations from the FDA, they can either cause you an allergic reaction, or make your hair falls, if you're sensitive to the product. They still ban them, no matter if they're natural, organic, or what. Like there are good mushrooms, there are also bad mushrooms, NOTHING IS SAFE, no matter who sold them, or where you bought them from.
Sorry, just stating the facts. The more you visit the salon, or put products on your hair or body, the more harm you are doing to yourself.

There are a lot of crooks out there. Never pay anyone to read or publish your book. A real agent will never ask for money except as a percentage of your royalties.

There are a lot of crooks out there. Never pay anyone to read or publish your book. A real agent will never ask for money except as a percentage of your royalties.
Keep in mind that finding an agent and getting published is not an easy process. Some people have to query hundreds of agents before they find one who will accept them (sadly, some never get accepted), but be persistent and keep trying.
You should also visit http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums one of the largest forums for writers. They can be very helpful.

I May attend LSU for the fall 2011 and I was curious as to what is there to do in Baton Rouge? Like touristy things, yes but also what are good shopping centers, is there good shopping? Good restaurants? Movie theaters? and fun things to do on weekends?
OH! also, i know its hot in Baton Rouge but does it get above 100 usually? Or does it ever rain?|||You'll find plenty to do in BR. There are more restaurants/bars than you could ever visit. Go visit the north side of the University and you'll discover many things/places that may lead you to not going very far off campus much.
BR does get hot in the summer and fall, and quite humid. But you'll learn how to cope.
It's really a good school to attend, so that might be your primary consideration.|||where are you from? yes, it gets hot but like they say... "it's not the heat, it's the humidity." and, of course, it rains, why would you think it doesn't? by september, the temperature should be starting to drop but if you're coming from a cool, dry climate, you'll likely still suffer a little. by october the heat has broken and it's usually pretty nice all the way through december.

Any and all ideas are appreciated.|||The Royal Street Courtyard hotel is a boutique hotel with hot-tub and beautiful gardens, authentic french quarter style rooms and really friendly. It's run by a guy called Phil who is fantastic. I live in London but have been there three times in the last four years. There is a big suite at the top that would sleep you all for much less than $1200.
New Orleans is one of my favourite cities. I can recommend hanging out on Frenchman's Street - it's where the best real bars and clubs are - forget Bourbon street.
There's also an African restaurant on Royal Street, near the hotel just into the French quarter that does the best food I've ever tasted.

Thanks in advance!|||Well, Baton Rouge has its good and its bad. If you move there, be sure to stay away from North Baton Rouge. That is the worst part of town. There was about 7 people murdered there last weekend... Be very sure you know how good the area of town you are moving to is so you don't end up on the edges of the ghetto which is very easy to do. Some of the good about Baton Rouge is that it is in Louisiana so the food is amazing. I think there is a nice selection of food establishments around there. The people for the most part are good. I wouldn't say it's the most friendly place in the world, but it's not too bad. If you plan on living there for a while and raise kids there, send them to a private school if you can afford it. The public schools are just terrible. Stay away from them at all costs. There are plenty of private schools as well as Catholic schools too that are good. There are several very good high schools. I believe the best there are Episcopal or Catholic High. Ask your fiance about them, I'm sure he could tell you more. Traffic is also very bad during all times of the day. Of course rush hour is the worst, but there is always road construction somewhere or people slowing down to look at a wreck on the side of the interstate. That is something you'll need to have patience with. The mayor right now, Kip Holden, is trying to revive the city, so hopefully within the next couple years there will be some positive changes. All-in-all, it's not a terrible city to just live and work in, but it's not a place that I would recommend planning on living in for your entire life. A lot of people are now starting to live in the outskirts of Baton Rouge in places such as Satsuma, Prairieville, and other areas. I don't really recommend living in Livingston or Ascension parish coming from New Mexico. Of course, all of this is my opinion, but I tried to give you as good of an insight as I could provide.|||Baton Rouge is a nice, medium-size city. It is not really a tourist destination so there isn't as much to do as New Orleans, but that also means daily life isn't disrupted by events. The population grew drastically after Katrina and the city is still trying to adjust to the additional traffic.
There is crime like everywhere, but - if they even happened - the murders mentioned in the first answer were the result of a dispute between drug characters. Stay away from people who buy/sell/use crack cocaine and you don't need to worry about it.

All of the aid organizations are setting up shop here, including ones run by the government, so I don't think they'd be here if they thought it was dangerous. Still, the NHC forecast calls for wind gusts of up to 90 mph on Monday, and there's always the possibility of small tornadoes being spawned. Stay inside, away from windows and you should be fine, provided you're not in a flood zone. |||Baton Rouge is far enough inland for it to be OK to stay, unless it has been recommended that people of B.R. evacuate. After Katrina, I do not understand why anyone would not evacuate. They are allowing pets to accompany evacuees now. If you can't afford to evacuate, there are resources to help now. If anything good came from the atrocities seen in the aftermath of Katrina, it is the resources available to the people of the gulf coast that were not there 3 years ago. I hope to God that Gustav will not be as devastating. People of the gulf coast are in my prayers!|||it is a possibility that gustav could come up the mouth of the mississippi river and remain strong from the river waters as it hits baton rouge. storm surges will only be from the lower lakes and coast, but baton rouge might be hit hard.
make sure you prepare for a week or two or even three of power outages. fill your bathtubs with water. stock up on food, water, diapers, cigarettes, etc. a generator is WONDERFUL. keep your gas tanks full in your car.
go outside and remove anything that might fly. flower pots, wind chimes, etc. move it indoors if possible, if not, at least lay it on the ground near a structure.

Thanks to any one who can help me!|||Cafe Du Monde is in New Orleans. If you're in Baton Rouge, try Coffee Call on College. It's in the Wal-Mart shopping center. Doesn't sound extravagent, but the beignet fingers are off the chain. Very laid back and artsy. And, somehow I forgot to mention that the coffee is like no other. If you like alot of cream, they have a machine that dispenses pre-creamed coffee. I miss it just thinking about it :).|||Any of the the nicer hotels host a great brunch...........but Cafe Du Monde, is the bomb for coffee and beignets and croquinoles.....(cajun donuts and pastries)......its fantastic.

As far as daily highs are concerned, they can have some cold waves mainly in December and January where the temperature stays below 60 for a few days. Average lows drop below 60 degrees there typically from October into mid May. Average lows below freezing are typically from December into mid February.

You could rent a place near LSU campus - They are normally cheap do to the fact that college students don't have much money. Stay away from renting on highland road if you have a tight budget. Any hotel is pretty much out of the option - They're all booked with Katrina people. Everything right now is a lot more expensive than normal because of Katrina.

Food, water and litter box won't work in a cage in a moving car, right?|||of course a cat cannot go 36hours with no food or water you will obviously need to stop the car and feed and water them and put the litter tray on the back seat and let them out to use the toilet [car doors closed of course]that way it should not be to hard to figure out|||Do you know if your cats have a problem with throwing up in the car? If so, it may be better not to feed them anything(cat's can go a day and half without food. Just be sure to feed them first thing when you get to your destination). If they vomit, they can dehydrate themselves, which is worse. And definitely provide them with water. Secure a dish to their cage that's deep enough to prevent sloshing in a moving vehicle, but shallow enough that your cats can drink from it comfortably. Make sure to refill it as needed(bring lots of water bottles, or buy them at rest stops). If you can, line the bottom with two or three layers of newspaper to absorb urine(in case of accidents), and to keep their paws comfortable. If you have a small disposable baking tray, you can fashion a temporary litter box. This can also be secured to the case to prevent it from sliding all over the place.
Place a blanket over their cage so they feel secure, and I don't know what the weather is like over there, but if it's hot, please don't leave them alone in the car for more than a few minutes.
Moving can be very stressful for cats, so make sure to comfort them whenever you can. Speak in a soft, high-pitched voice to them. Say their names, and reassure them that everything will be fine. When you reach your new home, they will probably be very frightened, so leave food and water for them, but otherwise let them be to explore and get acclimated. If they are outdoor cats, make sure you keep them indoors for at least three weeks before letting them outside, otherwise they may attempt to return to your old home.
I wish you luck.|||You can feed them and water them en route and give them a litter box every few hours when you stop for a break yourself. If you are stopping overnight anywhere try and book into a cat friendly motel (they do exist, people who show cats use them all the time). This would give your cats and you a chance to sleep properly, plus stretch legs, use the litter box and eat well - though a stressed cat might not do any of these things for quite some time.|||you could go to the vet and ask them kitty valium, that will help the cats stay calm. i moved my cat (via plane) from san fran to florida (it took 14 hours-dont ask) she was fine, and she was 14 years old at the time. i would definitely provide food water and a litter box. they have some cat carriers that have built in food and water containers. if you aren't trying to drive straight thru then put a litter box in the hotel room or wherever you are staying.

I find the best prices to fly in/out of New Orleans. You'll have to ask someone to bring you (or park your car there?? not recommended) and it's MUCH cheaper! I can fly from Nashville to New Orleans for just at a hundred bucks. If you look far enough in advance (at least 7 days) you can qualify for cheaper prices.. 1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon prepared mustard

1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, mustard, honey, and lemon juice. Store covered in the refrigerator. Makes 3 servings.
Or:
Alton Browns Honey Mustard Dressing
5 tablespoons medium body honey ( Sourwood is nice)
3 tablespoons smooth Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and whisk untill smooth. Serve as a dressing or as a dip. Yield: 4 - 6 servings.

We are still removing debris out of town from hurricane Gustav and one of the government departments are "marking" trees around town. I've only seen orange and green markings. Orange is for trees that have already fallen or split. I have a green mark on the tree in my front yard. What are they doing with the trees? "Green" trees are still standing, and to my eyes, undamaged.|||they might have water damage...maybe their week and they don't want to take the chance of them falling so the MIGHT cut them down...but i thought that's what orange was for|||Assuming it is the same anywhere orange paint markings on a tree are indicating the tree is slated for removal. I remember hearing that some of the DJs on 104.9 the X in baton rouge were switching to another station in the 90.0s, and Now I turn on my radio to be assaulted by the foul sounds of COUNTRY being simultaneously broadcasted from 107.3. I hate country and I just lost one of my favorite moder rock stations. Did they really switch stations or are they gone for good?|||I was wondering this myself since there was no official warning of a switch-over. Dan Day went over to 98.3, the classic rock station, that's the only DJ I knew that was moving. The change wasn't supposed to *officially* roll over until April 18th according to the 104.9/107.3 website. If you can, try to tune it to 92.3 New Orleans; it seems to have the same playlist as the old 104.9. You should be able to receive it in Baton Rouge.|||The station changed format to country. Others who have tried calling the station can't get through. But from what I hear, 104.9 the x is gone for good. The DJs have gone to other stations. I personally am sad to see the station go. Baton Rouge needs more good alt rock, not more country.

Hello, I will be moving to Baton Rouge in may and the only way that I've been able to decide what a good and bad area of town is based off of the Baton Rouge crime reports online.
From what my father says, Gardere is a bad part of town and should be avoided and north Baton Rouge is a bad part of town aswell.
Is Gardere ln/ Burbank a bad part of town aswell, or is it only south Gardere that is bad.

Because I hear it is the highest point in Louisiana.|||yes it's far enough to avoid the storm surge but it could still get high winds and street flooding as well as a loss of power from falling trees.|||Baton Rouge is not the highest point in LA.
BR is an OK place for evacuation, but farther away from the coast is better. BR can lose electric power and have extensive flooding from wind & rain even if a hurricane only side-swipes southeast Louisiana. That was what happened in 2008 for hurricane Gustav, and BR lost electric power longer than New Orleans because the storm's wind patterns meant higher winds in BR than NO.
If you are planning to stay in a hotel you are also better off moving farther away. Hotel costs in a 300 mile radius from New Orleans skyrocket with "special hurricane rates" when an evacuation is expected.
I would suggest going to Memphis, which is 400 miles from New Orleans. Memphis won't lose electric power and it's far enough away that hotel rates won't be affected..|||I would suggest going farther north. Up by Ruston maybe, or farther to Monroe. I evacuated from New Orleans to Baton Rouge during Gustav. My home in NO didn't lose power and didn't get hit too bad and where I stayed in Baton Rouge lost power. I had to take cold showers and all this...I would just recommend going northwest because the hurricanes usually turn east once they hit landfall, but BR is too close to the coast to be completely 100% safe. Plus, even if it was the highest point in LA, that doesn't matter when you have hurricane force winds throwing debris at you.|||For one, It's not the highest point in Louisiana. Were no where near a high point. But It's a safe place to go if your worried about storm surge. But for winds, No. We may not be on the coast but we still get hurricane force winds which brings down trees and blows roofs off. I would suggest north Louisiana or Mississippi.|||Yeah it's safe, sort of... You always have the worry of a tree landing on the place you are staying or the roof coming off from strong winds, but chances are more in your favor of not having that happen. It will be hot, crowded, low on supplies and miserable, but it will be safe, sort of...

So many people moved there from New Orleans. The result is high traffic and real estate prices. There are plenty of smaller towns near Baton Rouge like Gonzales, New Roads and Baker which are still handy to the city. I wouldn't call any of them lesbian-friendly nor would I call them unfriendly. New Orleans is of course much more cosmopolitan and much more likely to have bars and clubs.
.|||Your best bet would be to start looking for groups through LSU. Baton Rouge is hardly a metropolitan city, but you can usually find anything at a school that size.|||probably.

Some famous drinks are VERY potent compared with regular cocktails that have only 1 to 1 陆 ounces of alcohol. For example, a Hurricane is basically 3 or 4 ounces of rum in something like red Kool-Aid, and a Hand Grenade has at least 4 陆 ounces of Everclear + rum + vodka mixed with melon liquor. Also I have twins, who are going into the 1st grade. so what is the safest part of each city? Thank you all for any input or opinions. Its appriciated!|||I was born and raised in Lake Charles. I have often visited Baton Rouge and been to Monroe a couple times.
Lake Charles is a great place to raise a family. Nice areas and relatively safe. The north side has magnet schools which I attended both when I was younger, contrary to what the other person said they were excellent schools and often get bad mouthed by people listening to hearsay and have never even been to that side of town. But since your husband will be working at the airport, y'all will probably chose to live in that area which is located on the south side of Lake Charles. University is a lovely neighborhood for a family and also near several schools, stores and banks, etc...and there are also several up and coming neighborhoods near the airport that you might want to check out. They have some lovely homes there and they are really safe neighborhoods there.
For small children, I agree the Childrens Museum is an excellent place for young children. They had a fire a while back and remodeled there. Also the Civic Center has a park for children and a water fountain park, plus several other lovely parks. There is a huge skate center and karate centers. And so much more...........
In Baton Rouge, there are also lots of activities for kids, but its not that safe of a place to live. It's a large city so, it has its ups and downs as cities usually do.
As for Monroe, its the smallest of the three and is a nice place that has a nice zoo. I'm not that familiar with the city, because its so far from Lake Charles.
I left Louisiana, but it will always be home to me. The job market and pay rates caused me to leave. But since your husband has job offers then you guys should be okay. I hope that this helped you. Lake Charles, is a rather safe area for the most part, but you probably don't want to send them to a school in the north area b/c that's where the poorest schools are.
Monroe is a very small area, although there is a university. What does your husband do?|||I don't live in Louisiana but I have been there twice recently. We stayed in Lake Charles both times. The area is quite nice and there are lots of things to do. I have a 6 year old and twin 4.5 year olds. Lake Charles has an excellent children's museum that kept my children busy for about 4 hours. They also have atleast one nice park. I'd live there!

I went to the Baton Rouge on Des Jockeys and Decarie in Montreal last week and loved this dip so much , it's all I've been thinking about making at home, but not sure what is in it.|||I don't have their exact recipe. But here is a three cheese spinach dip recipe
Three Cheese Spinach Dip
1 (14 oz.) can artichoke hearts, drained
1/3 C. grated Romano cheese
1/4 C. grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp. minced garlic
1 (10 oz.) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1/3 C. heavy cream
1/2 C. sour cream
1 C. shredded mozzarella cheese
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Place artichokes, Romano cheese, Parmesan cheese and garlic in a blender or food processor. Pulse until chopped but not ground. Set aside. In a medium bowl, mix together spinach, cream, sour cream and mozzarella cheese. Stir in artichoke mixture. Spoon into prepared baking dish. I'm driving from baton rouge to san antonio through houston and see I10 and the big loop that is houston. just curious as to how to get through or around this area. the best way, fastest, least amount of traffic, best times etc....|||Your best bet is to leave Baton Rouge in the morning, say around 6AM. That will put you into Houston, at I-10 and the East Loop (610) at around 10, maybe a bit earlier.
You've missed the morning rush hour (between 7 and 9). Just stay on I-10. There's no need to get on 610, as it won't save you any time.
Warning. There is construction on the Katy Freeway (what we call I-10, west of downtown Houston) that will slow you down a bit. At that time of day you won't be sitting in stop-and-go traffic, but you won't be doing 80 either. The mess clears up, for the most part, after you pass under Beltway 8 on the west side. Downtown San Antonio is about 180 miles west of I-10 and Beltway 8. You should be there by about 1PM, 1:30 on the outside.

I need to know what kind of insurance do i need for my flooring company. I will have one employee. Do i need a license? If so, what kind and where do i get it? I also need to know any other requirements it takes to start a flooring company in Baton Rouge,La.. What i am trying to figure out is how to become a legal and insured floor installer. Or, does anyone know where i can find this information out? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.|||In most places licensing is not required to do flooring for yourself. So chances are you don't need any licensing. You will need to get general liability insurance, it is fairly cheap (about $50 per month). Then you will need to get a legal entity. This basically just establishes how you will pay your taxes. A good site that you can do it all is www.legalzoom.com. You can also do it on your states secretary of state website, but it is a bit more complicated. That's basically all you need to do. I would recommend getting some sort of tax software to keep track of everything, such as quickbooks. Then hire an accountant to come over for just a couple hours to set up your chart of accounts and show you how to use it.

It says you have to have the packaging covered in most areas, so go ghetto style and use a paper bag. If you are going to drink anywhere where you aren't sure of the law you should try to get a bottle you can put the top onto. If a cop is coming put the top back on and do not tell them they can open it. They can take it from you, but cannot look inside of it without a warrant. They will never get one, will always open it, and usually will pour out the alcohol. If you don't acknowledge you have alcohol you can go to court and tell them to present the evidence that you had alcohol, which requires a lab test. They will never have this. Secondly, you can say you never gave them permission to open, and search in your private property (your bottle) which they did without a warrant, so you should be able to get out of a ticket that way too.

I am traveling to Gonzales, Louisiana this weekend and i know the closest major city is Baton Rouge. I want to go and have some fun Friday and Saturday nights. Does anyone have any ideas?|||New Orleans is about an hour from Gonzales and BR is 30 to 45 minutes from Gonzolas.
NOLA is one of the world's special places with an ambience unique in North America, and remains so even after Katrina devastated it in 2005.
Katrina flooded about 80% of New Orleans with salt water, and the water stayed for almost a month. Much of the city is still struggling to recover and all you have to do to see devastation is drive around. It will take years for NOLA to fully recover from Katrina.
However, the parts of the city that tourists usually visit were not flooded. It's not a coincidence - the French Quarter and other old parts of the city were built on relatively high ground and only suffered wind damage from Katrina. Almost all of the damage has been repaired and you have to look closely in the FQ and city center to see that Katrina happened at all. You should visit and see for yourself.
You can drink the water, the electricity & phones work, and services like the post office, hospitals, schools, police/fire/EMS, and stores & shopping centers are operating.
Municipal services like street cleaning & trash collection collapsed after Katrina and that is why you may see answers warning about the “smelly” or "dirty" French Quarter. Those services were fully restored in late 2006 and it is no longer an issue.
I recommend staying in the French Quarter (Vieux Carre") if you can. There is a very wide range of selections available, from moderate guest houses to very exclusive "boutique" hotels. Search Yahoo Travel and Travelocity for ideas + check the hotel websites.
You don't need a car to get around in the French Quarter, Central Business District, or Warehouse District. Also, the parking regulations are Byzantine and there are lots of Parking Control Agents. If you drive or rent a car, leave it in a lot or garage unless you are traveling away from downtown.
The regional transit authority (www.norta.com) sells 1 and 3 day passes that offer unlimited use of buses and streetcars for the day(s) you select. There are also lots of taxicabs.
Regarding crime, use the same common sense you need in every major city in the world and there is little chance you will be a victim of anything except a need to visit the gym: Pay attention to your surroundings. Stay away from anywhere dark & deserted. Pay attention to your feelings - if anyone or anywhere gives you a bad feeling, leave the area. Don't leave something like a camera-bag or backpack unattended on a park bench while you wander off to take photos. Etc.
New Orleans has mild weather from October to May and the city stays green all year most years (rarely freezes and almost never snows). Summers are hot & humid, particularly in July and August - take it easy or stick to indoor activities during the middle of the day at that time of year. The good news for summer visitors is that hotel prices are usually lower.
Things to do:
There are many sightseeing opportunities in the greater New Orleans area, including carriage rides/tours, plantation tours, swamp tours, ghost tours, and even Katrina disaster tours. The steamboat Natchez also does a harbor tour. There are numerous tour companies and your hotel can help with the arrangements. Try to avoid scheduling an outdoor tour until you know the weather forecast for the day in question.
There is always music, but the bands change: Go to www.bestofneworleans.com and click on Music then Listings or to www.offbeat.com and click on Listings, then Music.
Wander around the French Quarter, enjoy the architecture, watch the street entertainers (do tip), and visit some of the historic buildings that have been turned into museums (go to www.frenchquarter.com and click on Historic Attractions).
Assuming the weather is good, you can collect a sandwich lunch and eat in the riverfront park (watch the shipping) or in Jackson Square (a very nice park).
The Riverwalk shopping center has an air-conditioned food court with dining overlooking the river (www.riverwalkmarketplace.com).
The lobby for the Wyndham Canal Place is on the 11th floor and overlooks the French Quarter. It is a great place for an afternoon drink/snack: http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/MSYCP/main…
Cafe du Monde is in the French Quarter and you shouldn't miss having cafe au lait & beignets (www.cafedumonde.com). Another great coffee shop is the Croissant d'Or (at 615 Ursulines Street), which is open from 7:00am to 2:00pm and has food other than pastry.
The Palm Court restaurant is very nice, has moderate prices, and traditional live jazz starting at 8:00pm: 1204 Decatur Street, tel 504-525-0200 (reservations are important and they are not open every day).
All of the famous restaurants (Antoine's, Arnaud's, Commander's Palace, etc.) have reopened. Reservations are a good idea, and probably essential on weekends.
Cafe Degas is a very French restaurant near City Park at 3127 Esplanade - which is not within walking distance of downtown (5 to 10 minutes by taxi). They are closed on Mondays & Tuesdays (504-945-5635).
There is a free ferry across the Mississippi at the "foot" of Canal Street. It is a short trip but like a harbor cruise w/o a guide: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canal_Stree…
The Aquarium and Audubon Zoo are world-class attractions (www.auduboninstitute.org) and you should see them if you can. There is a shuttle boat (not free) between the Aquarium (which is next to the French Quarter) and the Zoo (which is several miles away). You can also drive to the Zoo (which has free parking) or take public transit from the French Quarter.
The Louisiana State Museum (http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/visitor.htm) is in the French Quarter. New Orleans is also home to a number of other museums, such as the National World War II Museum (www.ddaymuseum.org) and the New Orleans Museum of Art (www.noma.org). Both can be reached by public transit: The WWII museum is in the central business district but a long walk from the French Quarter. NOMA is not within walking distance of downtown but has free parking.

It ain't nothing but outlets. Polo, etc...you'll love it. We used to travel to Gonzales Outlet Mall for outfits for Mardi Gras, Easter the 4th and any other Holiday. Have Fun.|||i live in baton rouge now, from new orleans, and well to me its boring here lol. i'm used to a more fast paced city and the only thing fast here is the food and the people on the interstate. lol. most people go bowling and to the movies and the mall|||Unless you like live theater and concerts and the performing arts, there's not a whole lot to do in Baton Rouge on Friday and Saturday NIGHTS. I'm moving to Baton Rouge for school and I heard that besides football season there's not much to do. I'm from Lafayette so I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to places to go out.|||Baton Rouge, honestly, does not have any really defining places to go. It does have stuff to do if you're know what you're looking for, though.
If you're looking for a party, there's always a party somewhere in one of the apartment complexes. Campus Crossings at Highland and Burbank are good bets, so are University Crescent and Commons on Burbank. On weekends, the northgate of LSU is a pretty busy place to go with tons of restaurants and bars. Join some clubs, meet tons of people at orientation, just try to get around at first and you'll be able to find a party. I'm not really a bar/club person, but some of the ones I've been to and heard of are (at northgate) Northgate Tavern and the Varsity, (elsewhere) Brightside Bar and Grill, Chelsea's Cafe, and Splash (Warning: Splash is a gay club). Downtown never seemed too lively to me, and parking can be kind of hard there. I'm sure there are others, but those are the major ones and you should just ask around if you want more. But yeah, if you're looking to get drunk and party, there are absolutely no problems with that in BR.
If you're not really the party type, there are plenty of cultural activities. Circle Bowling has 5 dollars for an hour and unlimited people on Thursday nights. A growing art community is ballooning, and you can check out culturecandy.org for stuff like that. Plenty of all-night or nearly all-night restaurants like Louie's, Waffle House, or Coffee Call are around. There are plenty of movie rental places and restaurants, and a movie theater just opened up in Perkins Row, not too far from the LSU campus. If you're going to LSU, keep your eyes peeled to the articles and ADVERTISEMENTS in the Reveille and Tiger Weekly. Often the ads are overlooked, but they usually have at least one or two things to do or bar specials in there.
And, of course, there's basketball, volleyball, and baseball season.
I plan on going to college at LSU Baton Rouge, but I wanted to move down there a little early to start working and getting to know my way around the city. My family doesn't know anyone who lives there, and dorms don't open up until the beginning of August. What's a way for me to live there for a month before school starts?
I would like to know of decent areas to look for residential property. I have only been to Baton Rouge once and liked the area. We moved to Baton Rouge from Texas and the prices we have been quoted so far are VERY expensive (more than companies that build even better quality pools in Texas). The last pool we had was built by a company that a friend told us about. We were wondering if anyone had some advice or names...
