baton rouge: I am 90% sure I am going to be attending LSU next year, so have been looking up what it is like in BR. All of the reviews I see are very mixed. There will be one super negative one saying the crime is horrible, the people are horrible, "Leave your dental records on the table when you leave the house", etc. Then the very next review says it is amazing, the people are fantastic, crime is just slightly above average but under control, there is a ton to do and see, etc. So what do you guys think?|||Baton Rouge is a normal American city. It isn't a tourism Mecca like New Orleans but there are things to do plus lots of shopping & restaurants. New Orleans is 90 minutes away by car. Crime happens in BR, but almost all of the violence happens > within < the criminal community (specifically between people who are in the drug trade). My family is from BR and I don't recall any of them ever being the victim of a crime. I have no idea where the "Leave your dental records on the table when you leave the house" type stuff comes from - it's simply not true UNLESS you buy/sell/use crack cocaine. LSU is a good university and I am certain you will enjoy going to school there.
