Tell me if it does Im gettin the hell outta here.|||chances are good.|||I am from Mississippi,and if the hurricane hits anywhere near you,your power will go out so that's the least of your worries. I went through Katrina along with some others and the best thing to do is just not panic and evacuate. It is supposed to hit central Louisiana early Tuesday morning,but with hurricanes like this,you just never know. It could very well turn and hit New Orleans and Mississippi dead on like Katrina.|||Okay, first off, don't freak out. It only puts stress on you and it won't help the problem. How about you talk to whoever takes care of you and y'all get a plan? I have a daughter at LSU in Baton Rouge and I'm not too happy about Gustav either, but it made me feel better to know that Baton Rouge is where practically all of the news teams from New Orleans and other inundated parts of Louisiana went when Katrina hit. (They needed the two full professional studios in the comm. building. Booted all the very disappointed communications students out.) So how is the college, which is responsible for the safety of 32,000 kids, preparing? The kids there are being asked to tightly bag up and store their electronics and other water-damageable things (like your computer) to protect them, to get some non-perishable food on hand like peanut butter and crackers, trail mix, canned meals like tuna, chili, ravioli, ready-to-eat soup (make sure you've got a can-opener and some spoons!), to get some bottled water and... to not freak out! I've been in two hurricanes and nearby to four tornadoes (one in my back yard) and freaking out doesn't do a bit of good. It can actually make things a lot worse. Louisian city planners, Baton Rouge included, are preparing for what's going on as are emergency planners in Texas and Mississippi. The Prez has declared an emergency NOW so funds and stuff are available to get folks ready ahead of time, evacuation plans for parts of Louisiana are being made in case they're needed, buses are being volunteered for use, food, water and supplies are being gathered, some roads may be made one-way only to help people leave, all sorts of preparations are being made. Louisiana is WAY ahead of where it was in being ready when Katrina hit. Bear in mind, New Orleans' government had been TOLD years ago that they should prepare in case a big one like Katrina hit them and they did nothing about it. That lack of preparation meant they were totally caught out, it cost people terribly and nobody's making that mistake twice. That said, look at a map of the path Gustav has taken so far. It has a sharp jog to the left in it. Hurricanes go in odd directions sometimes. (A lot of times, actually.) The thing could head a bit west and make a run at Houston, heck it could even decide it'd like Mexico better. Don't get to worrying until you are sure you have something to worry about...and maybe you could set aside some drinking water, some food that won't spoil or get soggy and some clothes and things in a bag if it'll make you feel better. It sure can't hurt.||| Yes, it is going to hit us so be VERY prepared and pray for your safety. Get your parents and get a plan of action together. You can have fun with this, with snacks, puzzles, games and don't forget BOOKS, this is a very good to time to read!! Make sure you have plenty of water and ice, take care of yourself and your pets! My family is in Baton Rouge and they told me that they won't know for sure until Sunday night.One thing about BR at times like these we pray harder. Jesus says when 2 or more are gathered together there He is in the midst of them.I pray God does to Gustav what He's done when other hurricanes has threaten BR, always shift them in another direction. Stop trying to act 'cool' i guess. and why don't you just wait until it hits land, seriously, Baton Rouge shouldn't get much damage. it's where most of the cities that actually will get damage will go to. calm down.|||It is too far out to figure right now. Current forecast tracks (which could change) point it toward mid to western Louisiana. LIke I said, it is so far away, and after a couple of days we will know more. I'm interested as well because I live in Houston|||I don't know, but it's coming through the heart of Louisiana; Which is Baton Rouge. I live in Zachary, LA and I'm tripping about the storm. All you can do is pray babe.|||well you'll be safe just stock up on supplies and talk to your parents get water lots of supplies too most stores have more details like walmart Walgreen's albertsons and others|||Baton Rouge will get at least tropical storm strength winds. Your power MIGHT go out so be prepared with flashlights, food, etc. But you should be safe.|||Thats hard to say right now.
