...when retiring.|||The problem with finding a place to live between Lafayette and Baton Rouge is that there is an enormous swamp that divides the two cities. The two cities are about 60 miles apart, connected by Interstate 10. Right in the middle of that stretch is the Atchafalaya Basin, which spans about 30 miles. But on the western side of the swamp, you will find a number of charming old Cajun towns that would be perfect for retirement. I live in Breaux Bridge. It's a small town that's close to Lafayette- so you can enjoy all of the benefits of small town living without giving up the comforts of the city. Before the highways were built, much of the local trade was conducted along the Bayou Teche. If you follow the bayou up from Morgan City, you will find a string of beautiful little towns, all built by French and Cajun settlers. So have a look around Franklin, New Iberia, St. Martinville, Breaux Bridge, and Arnaudville. You will be amazed by the architecture and the history that lies along that little bayou! There is also a wonderful and vital local culture. Music, dancing, singing, and of course...food! I think it's a great idea. You should look into moving here!|||I would rather eat worms.|||Its nice, quiet and serene. You are still close enough to all major ammendments.|||No perks. No features. No thanks. Try Honolulu, Australia or Nevada|||i have visited both those places and they are very quiet, but lovely and quaint... if you are retiring then this may suit you,,
